Smallville – Absolute Justice

January 29, 2010
Smallville
Absolute Justice
2-hour TV Movie

The Justice Society of America is a secret-society of superheroes, the first superhero group, and was established in the 1970s. The Justice League is the next generation superhero team.

The modern superhero team is the Justice League, while the Legion of Super-Heroes is the superhero team from a millinium in the future.

Tess has her team, the Injustice League, whicl is operated like the Suicide Squad.

While Lana Lang has her organization, the Isis Foundation. Her new skin contains DNA, fueled by meteor rock. Since Lex Luthor forced her to absorb large quantities of it, Clark can’t get near her, without suffering from Kryptonite poisoning. So even though she’s been written out of Smallville, she could be a client in her own organization now.

Early in the episode, a man named Sylvester Pemberton (Star-Spangled Kid) tracks down Chloe and tells her he knows about her team of superheroes and needs their help.

However, before he can explain who he is, he is attacked and killed by Icicle.

Apparently, he has been living in his car, since his superhero days.

Clark and Chloe’s investigation leads Clark to the former headquarters of the Justice Society of America where he meets up with Kent Nelson AKA Dr. Fate, Carter Hall AKA Hawkman and Courtney Whitmore AKA Star Girl. Courtney pleads with Hawkman and Dr. Fate to help her catch the killer that is targeting their group but they are reluctant to resume their duties as superheroes. Clark, John Jones, Green Arrow and Chloe team up to help the JSA stop Icicle before he murders another member of the group. Meanwhile, Lois recieves a package from a mysterious agency called Checkmate, run by Amanda Waller.

Clark finds the Sandman dead in his apartment, and Doctor Fate gets killed later in the episode.

The Watchtower is targeted and involved in a major battle, Chloe is there when the large circular window is shattered. Which appears to me as Hawkman.

Just a week earlier, Chloe was targeted by the Dark Archer at Watchtower.

At some point, it appears that Hawkman abducts Green Arrow.

Oliver Queen is using maps to track the activities of a Justice Society member.

There is a Justice Society member (Star-Spangled Kid) that knows Chloe is Watchtower.

Clark, Green Arrow and John Jones (Martian Manhunter)

There is a point in which Chloe is attacked by the Icicle.

The Icicle is responsible for taking the lives of several members of the Justice Society.

Clark, Green Arrow and John Jones find the headquarters of the Justice Society discover several artifacts belonging to members ot the Justice Society. Clark discovers Jay Garrett’s helmet with wings, that was worn by the original Flash. Green Lantern’s power ring and power battery are also discovered.

There is evidence that the Justice Society had their own Black Canary, the mother of the current Justice League member Black Canary.

Written By: Geoff Johns

Directed By: Glen Winter

Chloe is confronted by a Justice Society member in a dark alley. (actually, Smallville’s one street)

– Kent Nelson (Doctor Fate) talks to his helmet maing him perceived to be a crazy person.

– Clark and Chloe enter a hospital room to find Doctor Fate standing there. With a gesture, Fate sends Clark elsewhere.

– Oliver meets up with Chloe at the Watchtower.

– Star Girl has an outdoor confrontation with the episode’s villain. (This might be in Hour 2, “Legends”).

– Talking to Matt Mitovich at FANCAST.com, actress Britt Irvin reveals a death occurs at the beginning at the episode, and “that brings [the JSA] together with Clark and his team.”

– Irvin also reveals that Star Girl has a bit of friction with Green Arrow at the beginning, as does Hawkman. She does say that her character has a special connection with Clark. “He reminds her a lot of her mentor,” she says, adding that when the JSA gets wind (via Dr. Fate) of Clark’s destiny, Star Girl realizes that Clark is “very important for mankind.”

Some Justice Society members know who “Watchtower” really is before they are told.

– There is a super-villain in this episode named Icicle.

– Sometime before this episode Chloe gets a non-Watchtower job offer.

The preview aired for Smallville’s return included some shots of Sandman (Wesley Dodds version) as well as a shot of the Green Lantern’s ring and power battery.

Jay Garrett (Flash) is walking down some steps, escorted by 2 police officers. Under arrest?

His polished and buffed World War I helmet with the wings on the side is seen in a display case.

– We’ll see Hawkman flying into Watchtower, through the large circular window, to Chloe’s dismay and onto the Daily Planet roof.

– This version of Hawkman is a “reincarnated prince” from thousands of years ago. He now works in a museum as Carter Hall.

– The Justice Society was active in the 1970’s but they had since disbanded.

– There are a lot of memories and paraphernalia that “viewers will be familiar with.”

Namely, Jay Garrett’s helmet, and Allen Scott’s power ring.

– Carter doesn’t know what to make of Chloe, and Lois’s role will have something to do with the romance and “Tess’s dark plotting.”

– Some trust issues with Martian Manhunter “have to be dealt with,” and Dr. Fate has a helmet which can predict the future and can teleport.

– Hawkgirl will be referenced and we will learn where she is now.

UPDATED 10/30/09: New Hawkman spoilers from Michael Shanks at the Huffington Post:

– “Hawkman being the alpha in the Justice Society, being someone who…has made some missteps along the way, can or could represent a type of mentor character to Clark in his leadership abilities with his burgeoning team members of the Justice League. He represents a character that has a lot of wisdom to pass down to this next generation, so there is a strong possibility that once the initial phase wears off that there will be a coming together of those two to paint a larger portrait of the future, of what Clark has available to him and what his options are,” he says.

– About Doctor Fate: “There’s a really neat relationship between he and Hawkman that makes the first episode quite heart-wrenching. There are aspects of it that are heart-wrenching as a result of that relationship. And I thought that was a very cool aspect of the first episode.”

– The character will fly, and he does have a mace. And yes, there are wings.

– The version of Carter Hall we’ll be seeing here is an archaelogist, not “Thanagarian space cop.”

Elise Gatien as appearing as “Speedy” in this episode, she does NOT appear in “Society.”

“Yes, Hawkman will have wings. And a big mace. Oh. And he and Green Arrow don’t get along. At all.”

At least one of the Justice Society members appearing has been replaced by a woman in their superheroic identity (Stargirl) at some point in comics history. (As revealed above, Doctor Fate is appearing. Hawkgirl taking over Hawkman’s comic book series might also count).

The Justice Society returns “to give these screwed up guys of the next generation a needed smack-down,” Geoff Johns says. The characters appearing are not yet known and will rely on legal clearances, but Johns says the characters will be in their 40’s and Jay Garrick and Alan Scott will not be appearing.

The Justice Society “will be heroes that come out of ‘retirement’ to see how the current generation operates.”

Justice Society of America – a team that preceded the Justice League by a generation.

9-13 Absolute Justice (Legends Pt 2)

Written By: Geoff Johns

Directed By: Tom Welling

Guest Stars: Michael Shanks (Carter Hall/Hawkman), Brent Stait (Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate), Britt Irvin (Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl), Phil Morris (John Jones/Martian Manhunter), Alessandro Juliani (Dr. Emil Hamilton)

When Phil Morris appears as John Jones in “Legends” (the second hour of Absolute Justice), expect to see him wearing a very holiday-like combination of colors – red and green. No, he’s not celebrating Christmas; more, he’s wearing the familiar colors known for many years as being worn by his comic book counterpart, the Martian Manhunter. Even the “X” design will be incorporated.

Lois and Tess share a scene in the Daily Planet basement. Lois and Clark also have at least once scene at the Planet.

– There is a big battle inside the Watchtower.

Lois gets some information about the Justice Society members from an anonymous source.

Pam Grier (Jackie Brown) will be appearing in this and several other episodes as Amanda Waller. Waller is a major player in the comics and is frequently associated with the organizations Checkmate and the Suicide Squad.

All of the series’ regular cast except for Callum Blue (Zod) appears in this episode.

UPDATED 10/22/09: The guest cast is assumed but not confirmed, as Johns has stated that the extension to 2 parts was to ensure that “Hawkman, Dr. Fate, and Stargirl are done right.”

– Lois will be appearing in the second part.

The above trailers and preview provide the most information for episode “Absolute Justice”.

The Justice Society and some members of All-Star Squadron are all now part of Smallville continuity as members of the Justice Society.

Smallville Season 9 – Spoiler Update

Smallville
Spoiler Update
by Brian S. Griffin
My previous Smallville article on this blog has alot of spoilers, and now, thanks to comic-con, alot more have been released, and are as follows:
1. Season 9’s theme is “Clark’s darkest hour.”
2. Look for a season-long love triangle with Clark, Lois, and Red-Blue Blur.
3. Chloe, still grieving over Jimmy’s death will immerse herself in all things Watchtowerish.
Some tension for Clark when she realizes she’s no longer content just being his sidekick.
4. We’ll find out why Clark isn’t flying in a scene with him and Jor-El (the returning Terence Stamp) in the season premiere.
5. Metallo will be in the first 2 episodes, this season.
Episode 9.02 or 9.03 focuses on Oliver’s downward spiral.
6.Clark is going to be wearing a blackish trenchcoat with a silver “S” logo as he embraces the heroic image that fans of the “red and blue blur” have been placing upon him.
7. According to Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow), a bit of tension builds between Oliver and Clark over the fact that Clark is leaving his “S” symbol around following a rescue he does. Why, Oliver wants to know, does Clark need the attention?
8. Callum Blue, who plays Zod, provided some very interesting information. The Zod we meet is an earlier version of the villain from Superman II. This is MAJOR Zod, who has come to earth, with some segment of an army, from Krypton’s PAST. He doesn’t know who Clark is, has no idea where he is or what is going on. And initially he doesn’t have his powers.
9. The notion that Zod has come from Krypton’s past raises a number of issues, which no one will confirm or deny, though based on facial reaction, one can assume that Jor-El will indeed be appearing on the show. It also raises issues of whether or not this can impact on the timeline. For instance, can Clark somehow save Krypton? If he does, however, that planet’s survival would result in him NOT being sent to earth and ultimately become Superman.
10. It was conceded that the show will play around with the timeline to tell some of the storylines, though it won’t be a constant time-shifting adventure ala Lost.
12. Alessandro Juliani will reprise his role as Dr. Emil Hamilton for several episodes this season.
13. Alison Mack will be directing another episode this season, and Tom Welling, who is now a co-executive producer on the show, will be directing two episodes as well.
14. Geoff Johns will be writing a Justice Society episode of the show.
15. It seems that teen angst truly is being left behind, the focus turning fully towards the next step in Clark’s embracing his ultimate destiny.
16. Story-wise, Peterson is not approaching this seasoon as Smallville’s last.
17. Peterson recently had dinner with Michael Rosenbaum, so maybe Lex is still alive!

Clark's New Costume
My previous Smallville article on this blog has alot of spoilers, and now, thanks to comic-con, alot more have been released, and are as follows:
1. Season 9’s theme is “Clark’s darkest hour.”
2. Clark Kent (Tom Welling) is getting a little obsessed as the Red Blue Blur, his crime-fighting alias. “He is trying a little too hard to be a hero, and is leaving the rest of his life behind.
3. Look for a season-long love triangle with Clark, Lois, and Red-Blue Blur.
4. At the end of last season, the Isis Foundation set was torn down, for the Justice League Watchtower set.
5. Chloe, still grieving over Jimmy’s death will immerse herself in all things Watchtowerish.
Some tension for Clark when she realizes she’s no longer content just being his sidekick.

Red-Blue Blur's new costume
They will have a rocky start at first. Lois and Clark will finally start to grow closer, but there’s a love triangle between Lois,Clark, and his alter ego “Blue Blur” as Lois develops a crush on Superman.
Clark will be sporting the first version of his “Superman” suit. It’s not the red and blue one,It’s all black, no spandex, with the silver Superman logo on the front and a long black trench coat that doubles as a cape.
Clark walking forward
“Toyman” and “Roulette” will be returning this season. Lex Luther is not dead,no other info was given. They just say, he is not dead. We may see a Green Arrow sidekick story as they are brainstorming for one.
Clark and Oliver’s relationship will be tested because Oliver is jealous of Clark’s powers and growing relationship with his ex Lois. Also Oliver makes an attempt to rekindle things with Lois.
Lois will come back from the future and get flashes. Then start to think she has amnesia, and something is wrong with her.Chloe is going to be experimenting with different things in an effort to save the world, including carrying a gun.
Clark at Watchtower
The General Zod we see, will be a younger version of him. He’ll be going by the name Major Zod,he will not yet have full control of the troops he’s brought in,he will not be aware that Krypton has been destroyed, and is not yet aware of Clark’s existence.
There will be a time parallel caused by Zod which may cause us to see a possible appearance from Clark’s biological father Jor-El.
Smallville Season 9 Comic-Con Trailer
During the Comic-Con 2009 Interview, Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders gave the following info regarding Season 9.
Brian  Peterson has said:
Clark is training with Jor-El and for the first time really embracing what that means to be a hero, trying to give up his human identity, but finding how hard that is when you’re in love with somebody. So that’s kind of the thread, between Lois and Clark and the Blur, and his training with Jor-El, that’s kind of the thread.
Major Zod arrives here with a legion of Kryptonians troops from Kandor.
Major Zod, not a General yet – younger and more manic.
The orb may be a portal to Krypton’s past, so this Kandor is of the past.
Not the present version, which Kara thought somehow survived.
The season premiere will explain why Clark doesn’t fly, and why he’s wearing the costume he has right now.
We won’t see him flying until he embraces being Superman, that will be the final stage – him deciding who he wants to be.
Kelly:Souders
“It’s a different side of Superman. It’s very exciting. The film, the footage that’s coming in, it looks like a motion film.”
“This is a different incarnation of Zod”. “We’re introducing him as Major Zod—this is before he became General Zod.” Souders added that “over the course of the season, the venomous side of Zod rises because he experiences a few key betrayals with our beloved characters.”

Season 9 Episodes:
9.01 Savior
This is the season premier, which features Major Zod (Callum Blue), a younger version of Zod.
Metallo9.02 Metallo
Mild-mannered reporter John Corben suffers an accident, then a procedure, which transforms him into a cybornetic organism, a cyborg. In the comics, his robotic body, is powered by a green kryptonite heart. If the same holds true, then he may be after the kryptonian orb, from which he could draw unlimited power to sustain himself. Thereby getting powers like Clark.
9.03 Rabid
9.04 Echo
A villian from the past returns in this episode.
Oilver ends up at a seedy club in Havana with two women in tow, and later ends up being chased by a large drug kingpin. He ends up having to be saved by one of his on-again, off-again associates and romantic partners.
Meanwhile, Clark weaars a texedo and a bow tie to gain entrance into the Ace of Clubs and goes by the name “Kennair”. His “date” to the AoC is Lois in an elegant cocktail dress.
Lois and Clark go to Metropolis General to interview a man held hostage, but it seems it may be a false lead. This still causes Clark’s “reporter instincts” to get “kicked into high gear”.
Lois and clark also interview a female hostage.
It seems that Clark might get a new power to hear others’ thoughts in this situation, hence the title.
